Competition Time — Laughing Horse New Act Of The Year 2014

While chatting to Ed Caruana at the Underground Comedy Club in August he mentions the Laughing Horse as a place where he tries out his material, and that I should look them up for trying out my own stuff. The only problem is that the Laughing Horse likes to see you in one of their competitions before they will book you onto one of their nights.

Luckily their New Act of the Year 2014 competition was open right now. I filled out the details and within minute I had my date for the beats on 9th Oct! Shit that’s in a week or two… crumbs I suddenly feel seriously stressed!

The competition is only 3 rounds.

  • Heats (Now)
  • Semi Finals (early Nov)
  • Final (30th Nov)

I better get my thinking hat on, I’m thinking about Notting Hill and possibly the Notting Hill Carnival. 15 contestants all doing 4 mins of material.

Any act may enter unless:

  • An act has already appeared in the final of a previous Laughing Horse ‘New Act of the Year’ competition
  • An act has been paid by the Laughing Horse for a stand‐up comedy performance
  • An act is considered not to be a new act by Laughing Horse Comedy

Competition Rules:

  • Acts must perform their own, original, material.
  • Acts must stick to the allotted time for each round

Competition Format:

1. Overall Information:

In all rounds the winners and runners‐up will be announced at the end of the show, if a performer cannot stay until the end of the evening they should ensure that the Laughing Horse promoters have their contact details to inform them of progression to the next round. If an act is incontestable then we reserve the right to replace that act with another act.

At all stages of this competition the Laughing Horse promoters decisions are final. Laughing Horse Comedy reserve the right to make any decisions or changes that we see fit regarding this competition, at any time.

2: Judging

Judging at heats is carried out by audience voting, with judging also from Laughing Horse Promoters.

3: Heats

(a) The winner and one runner‐up act will qualify at each heat. All of the acts will qualify for the semi‐finals by audience voting.

If you fancy joining me on the 9th Oct for my heat, buy yourself some tickets.
