PR needed?

I need to start thinking about PR. How do I get my name out there? How do people become interested, and then want to come and see me perform?

I suppose the first thing that springs to mind is as many open mics as possible. Every week, every day. Get out there and get noticed.

But unless you’re going to see Michael McIntyre or Lee Evans, can you honestly say you can remember anyone’s name on the last Open Mic night out? The answer, unless you were a ‘bring a friend’ friend, is probably no. Not only are there too many comics on the bill, the compere also gets the whole crowd clapping and cheering at the same time as calling out the comic’s name!

I can only remember people’s names by writing them down then and there, otherwise they are lost until I see them on stage again. So far I have not seen the same person on stage twice and with hundreds of venues on the circuit I might never do.

A friend has passed on the details of Jason Gale. Lets see what me expert thinks.

OK, so I have just spoken to Jason, who is a super nice guy, and he pointed out that my best options would be social media and contacting agents and newspapers myself. Otherwise it would be too expensive at this stage in my career.

With this advice I’m off the learn how to use Facebook and Twitter to aid me in my PR quest!
